Sheridan to Harding

18 april 2019 - Hardin, Montana, Verenigde Staten

Up to now we have had nice campgrounds and met lovely happy campers and campground owners. All alike with the campground live running through their veins one way or another. Always ready for a little conversation about where we all are from, and where we all are going. Travellers’ stories are always nice to listen to. Get the tips and tricks, learn about the region and about people in general. You always hear a new story every day. All came to an end when we arrived at Sheridan KOA campground.

We had a really nice day visiting Devils Tower and enjoyed the ride afterwards to Sheridan. Looking forward to arrive at the KOA campground. Driving an action packed last 4 days from touristic site to must see places we decided to take an additional day for some well-deserved rest. We were really craving some R&R. Some extra sleep and just being lazy. As well as having to do laundry, since we were down to our last towels. What can go wrong on a KOA? How badly mistaken we were. We arrived at a reasonable time at the campground, 6PM. And the sign on the office said  open till 8PM. So I opened the door to the office, at least I thought I would. The door was locked and even before I turned around the female owner was already walking up to us and in a annoyed tone of voice said; "Hold on". "Good evening" I replied. " The sign said open". She said; "but you can see it is locked!" Again, the tone... "maybe next time you could turn over the sign to closed? Or I'll be there shortly?" I suggested. Clearly the woman was not used to getting suggestions nor was she open to them. She unlocked the door and went ahead of us into the office. "Don't touch anything!" she growled. She went behind her counter and started typing on her PC. And without having the decency to even look one of us in the eye during the whole time she continued, "the Jansen's". I was still wondering if it was a question, but even before I could answer she flung a map of the campground on the counter. "Spot 11" again that voice..... "make your way via bla bla bla bla". At that time I had stopped listening and just started talking to her in the same manner she did to us. All of a sudden she had an epiphany of some sort I guess, and she shut up. Sometimes silence is golden, they say. Right on.

Suus asked where the laundry room was located. "IT IS CLOSED!" there was that annoying voice again. At that moment I wish I was a catholic Italian and give her a good whooping.......but just then Suus had already verbally hung the woman to dry. Always nice to see, one of the many reason I so dearly love her. I watched while Suus had her say. We left the office leaving the woman, she had met her match. I flipped open the laptop, we found a new location for the next day. All in all we did not get the well-deserved rest. We did not get to do our laundry. We were gone at first light!

2 hours later we arrived at a campground in Harding, Montana. In no man’s town, trailer trash RV resort. And it is heaven compared to that awful KOA. A wonderfull woman at the campground. A local lady with new stories and genuine intrest when she askes, "How are you?". We managed to do all the laundry and get some rest. Tomorrow we are moving on to Billings Montana. And the day after we will meet Jennifer, another Lammie sister, who offered us a stay at their home.

I do have to share some photo's of the short drive, since it was beautiful with the weather.

After that we've already planned our 3 days of touring Yellowstone.
