The last drive of our awsome road trip.....

25 april 2019 - Kent, Washington, Verenigde Staten

We had prepared ourselves for a calm and easy ride. That is exactly what it was. We were in a part of Washington, which is relative flat and is farmland as far as you could see. Mostly corn, wheats and other crops. We both were feeling the same. It must have been the most boring scenery that we have had during the full 4 weeks. It looked like the Flevo-polder, or Noord oost polder in the Netherlands. It was very similar, bigger but similar. You could see that the fields were prepared with the young corn already planted. At that moment we both knew that this was it! Our last miles on the American highway for 2019. Our last moments of this again wonderful adventure we had embarked on since the 1st of April. We could do another 8 weeks of roaming around, driving to no man’s land and meeting all sorts of people and listening to stories and experiences. Campground to RV park, and at friends driveway's. Why has time flew by as quick as it did? We cranked up the volume on the radio and for the last time played our favourite tunes on which we sang along as if we were the artist. This was our last stretch of highway for this road trip adventure. A cropdusterplane flying over the fields alongside of us and doing its job. You could see him enjoying the flight. After he had dusted a field he would pull up like he was going to do a looping, but made a quick turn only to plummet down to the ground again and level out just in time to spray another part of the field then pulling up again, coming down again. Pulling up again, it felt as if he was waving goodbye to us.

Not much later we could see 2 big military airplanes flying in formation one behind the other. A flying in a square pattern, over and over again at a very low speed. From a distance it looked as if they were stationary in the air, that’s how slow they were flying. I could not make out windows in the cockpit, so I thought it were drones of some sort. Coming a bit closer they looked like air force freight carriers. But they did not get close enough to really make out what they were. They disappeared in the foggy skies above the cornfields.

A sign along the highway said view point in 2 miles. And since we both could do with a little leg stretching we decided to take the exit. And I kid you not, it was part of the Hiawatha road. So you can understand all the noises that arose in the cockpit of our RV. As if a full squad of Indians came crashing through our RV. In all honesty, it was just me making the weird Indian noises. But still…. I took the exit and we were not disappointed. We had a stunning view over the canyon at Quincy. We were enjoying the scenery as two fighter planes can flying through the canyon. Al those military planes, what was going on? A man and his son came up to us and asked us where we were from since he heard us talk in Dutch. The man later explained that they were from South Carolina and driving his son to Alaska since he had taken a job there. This was the moment that those fighter planes flew by. And as the man was ex-military he was able to finally explain why all those airplanes were flying around. As it turns out there is a base nearby out of which jetfighter pilots learn how they need to refuel in mid-air. This also explained the 2 airplanes we had seen earlier. With the mystery explained, we got back in our RV. We still had 4 hours driving ahead of us.

The surrounding views were slowly changing into a bit more hills and more and more houses. We passed midsized towns and could see that we were getting closer and closer to Seattle. Closer to our final destination of the adventure. We still had 2 fun filled crazy busy days ahead of us. One being some ones birthday and the other being the Seattle Lammies day. With that in mind we entered the suburbs of Seattle. Which used to be all small cities now clustered together I guess. As a big metropolis city does. In the distance we could see contours of what will be our last city we will visit.
