Getting ready to "hit the road".
12 april 2019 - North Sioux City, South Dakota, Verenigde Staten
Another two days have past, as did the winter storm Wesley to the North of us and the thunderstorms to the south of us. Luckily we have found the sweet spot to stay during all of Mother nature's plans of last week. The only discomfort we had to endure was that one night with the thunderstorm directly above our campground. We did see the occasional snowflake in the last days, and temperatures dropped below freezing. But nothing really serious. We could stay hooked up to water. The walk to the showers was our biggest challenge to be honest. We did not had to get our snow blowers ready. Noor did we shovel any snow. Big shout out to Pete and Jill! I hope that the worst for you guys has passed as well. We spend our days strolling around in the biggest Walmart’s we could find, visiting little towns and cruising the local roads. Playing cards and Yahtzee.
Meanwhile at Walmart's....... While we in NL we can get brown and yellow........
But what a difference 1 day can make.
We can finally see a little bit of sunshine through the clouds again. And the weather forecast is looking good. Still the cold will be a big "friend" during our road trip adventure, but we will plough on. Having kept a close eye at the weather we knew that Saturday would be our first day of travel since Wesley kept us stationed in Sioux City. Knowing this, today was a planning day! Finally I could let my friendly form of ADHD set things in motion. Flipped open the laptop, got my RV parky app running on my Dutch mobile, my GPS ready on my American mobile, the maps up and running on my iPad, and the world was once more ours to explore. As I said, my friendly mild form of ADHD was up and running, full steam ahead!!!!!
For now we have planned the coming days up to the 17th of April when we will be in Sheridan, Wyoming. Just East of Bighorn National Forrest. But so much to see, so much to do and so much to experience before we get there. Tomorrow will be a day of driving 420 miles due West. So the "heading west" title of our blog is as applicable as it can be for the coming day. Really looking forward to be on the move again. The anticipation of what we will see, after blizzard Wesley has passed. The Interstates are ok to drive, but we still need to be careful for wind and icy patches of asphalt. So here we go......
On our ToDo list for the coming days.
- Saturday - 420 miles due West to Hot Springs, South Dakota. ( campground )
- Sunday - explore the South side of Black Hills National Park.
- Monday Morning - Another one of the highlights of the trip Mt. Rushmore.
- Monday Afternoon- After Mt R, take our RV straight through the Black Hill mountains, South to North via Black Elk Peak (7252 ft) and Deadwood to Spearfish (campground)
- Tuesday - Devils Tower and Sleepy Hollow, ending in Sheridan at the foot of Bighorn National Forrest.
During my surfing of the internet and finding the places to go to, Suus did al the hard work and made a RDF-meal for us. (look at the picture section to find out) She found a local butcher shop and bought some real sauzijsjes, boiled some potatoes and broccoli. She really is my hero, and made my day. With passion I dug in and finished my plate, I start to like the portion sizes....... Typing this last few words is with a full tommy and a nice after dinner dip.
For all the lovely lammie ladies that are reading along, and for all other interested to reach out. Our US mobile number is 402-508-6812. Please feel free to call or text.
